Ciao! Le nostre riunioni continuano, come sempre, tutti i martedì ma c'è una eccezione: martedì 15 agosto è festa! Il Ferragosto è celebrato il 15 agosto in tutta Italia, a San Marino e nel Canton Ticino, ed è una festa di origine romana antica. Il nome deriva dal latino feriae Augusti (riposo di Augusto), in onore di Ottaviano Augusto, primo imperatore romano.
La ricorrenza fu assimilata dalla Chiesa Cattolica attorno al VII secolo ed è diventata l'Assunzione di Maria. Il dogma dell'Assunzione stabilisce che la Vergine Maria è stata "assunta", cioè accolta, in cielo sia con l'anima sia con il corpo. Nel Sud Italia, "Assunta" è un nome comune per le donne.
Il Ferragosto viene spesso festeggiato in vacanza al mare, e ci sono spesso spettacoli con fuochi d'artificio.

Our meetings continue, as always, every Tuesday, but there is an exception: Tuesday, August 15th is a holiday! Ferragosto is celebrated on August 15th throughout Italy, San Marino, and in the Canton Ticino, and it is a holiday of ancient Roman origin. The name comes from the Latin "feriae Augusti" (rest of Augustus), in honor of Octavian Augustus, the first Roman emperor.
The celebration was assimilated by the Catholic Church around the 7th century and became the Assumption of Mary. The dogma of the Assumption establishes that the Virgin Mary was "assumed," meaning received, into heaven both with her soul and body. In Southern Italy, "Assunta" is a common name for women.
Ferragosto is often celebrated with vacations at the seaside, and there are often firework shows.
